Kippford Holiday Park in Kirkcudbrightshire helped children and families discover the natural world through free pond-dipping sessions in partnership with the RSPB.
Held during the summer, the sessions invited holidaymakers and members of the local community to explore the fascinating wildlife living in and around the park’s pond, with guidance from expert RSPB volunteers.
The activities encouraged people of all ages to spend time outdoors, learn about local biodiversity and develop a greater appreciation for the natural environment.
Sasha from Kippford Holiday Park said:
“We hold a couple of sessions each year which are completely free and everyone is welcome to attend, not just those holidaying on the park. It is an opportunity for people of all ages to have some hands-on fun, learn about the natural environment and the variety of small creatures that can be found in ponds. It is also lovely to enjoy time outdoors together.”

Participants were encouraged to look and listen carefully before dipping their nets into the pond, making the sessions an interactive learning experience while highlighting the importance of protecting local wildlife and habitats.
Sasha added:
“Our key aims at Kippford Holiday Park are to help build a community with our owners and guests as well as education and partnerships with local wildlife groups and the community.”
By working with conservation organisations and opening its grounds to the wider community, Coastal Kippford Holiday Park helped people connect with nature, learn about biodiversity and enjoy shared experiences outdoors.
This is part of the #ParksMakePlaces campaign, celebrating how holiday parks support people, places and the planet.
