For more than 20 years, Retreat Caravan Park in Burnham-on-Sea has been a steadfast supporter of BARB Search and Rescue, the volunteer-run charity that protects lives along the Somerset coast. With £25,000 contributed to date, the park has played a key role in helping BARB operate its two rescue hovercraft and two inshore boats – vital assets for a coastline known for its wide mudflats, fast tides and challenging conditions.

BARB responds around the clock to emergencies on the Severn Estuary and also provides critical assistance during flood events across the UK. Their work is essential for keeping both local residents and visiting holidaymakers safe. Retreat Caravan Park continues to champion the charity to ensure this lifesaving service remains ready whenever it is needed.
Each summer, the park hosts its popular Owners’ Party, complete with fete-style games, raffles and local food suppliers. All proceeds go directly to BARB and the park matches every pound raised, doubling the impact. Proudly displayed in the park is BARB’s Certificate of Recognition, a tribute to a remarkable long-term partnership built on community spirit, coastal care and unwavering support for those who keep others safe.

This is part of the #ParksMakePlaces campaign, celebrating how holiday parks support people, places and the planet.
