Four times fabulous – Dorset holiday park pulls off awards coup

Best of British Park - Back of Beyond
Many congratulations: Victoria and Martin Bowrey’s holiday park gained the pole position in four award categories

The husband-and-wife team behind a Dorset holiday park say they were “left reeling” after learning that they had scooped four top awards in one swoop.

Back of Beyond in Ringwood, owned by Martin and Victoria Bowrey, achieved pole position in four categories of an annual contest to find Britain’s favourite parks.

Best of British Holiday Park

The votes for the couple’s holiday retreat near the New Forest were cast by readers of two top-selling touring magazines, Practical Caravan and Practical Motorhome.

After the count-up was complete, Back of Beyond was announced as the winner of the Best Site for Camping in Britain, beating thousands of other eligible parks.

It also took the top spot in the national category for Best Adults Only Site, and the regional category for Best Site in Dorset.

Top holiday spot in Dorset

But readers hadn’t finished yet, for they also voted Back of Beyond as Britain’s best park for eco-friendly holidays in the Best Green Site category.

“We had hoped for a showing after a number of guests said they would be voting for us, but never expected to be made overall winner in four separate categories!” said Martin.

“This contest is always one of the most highly regarded in the industry as it is based entirely upon the experiences of people who stay on parks right throughout the UK.

“These awards are also fantastic timing for us as we prepare to re-open on 12 April and welcome back guests for the first time this year.

“I hope these wins will also help benefit other local tourism businesses by throwing the spotlight on Dorset as an amazing holiday destination,” added Martin.

No stranger to top holiday awards

Not that Back of Beyond is any stranger to awards, and earlier this year it joined a small elite Best of British parks flying the coveted AA five-star Gold Pennant.

The business was also presented with the David Bellamy Conservation Award at its top gold level in recognition of Back of Beyond’s many environmental initiatives

Back of Beyond provides pitches for camping, caravans and motorhomes – plus luxury glamping options including yurts, pods, shepherds huts and timber lodges.

Bookings for 2021, said Martin, are at their highest ever level since he and Victoria sold their London photography business to take on the park eight years ago.
