Holiday park’s bid to make Devon home to tourism Oscar

Devon’s Beverley Holidays could soon be walking the red carpet in Britain’s “tourism Oscars” after learning that it has reached the national finals of the competition.

Contenders for the British Travel Awards, which last year attracted an astounding 1.3 million votes from the public, have now been whittled down to just a handful.

And in the “Best UK Family Holiday/Holiday Park Operator” category, Beverley Holidays of Paignton is one of only seven firms tilting at the top prize.

The outcome will depend on the number of votes cast between now and 30 September, and Beverley has issued a rallying call to its thousands of fans.

If enough click the voting panel on the park’s website, it says, South Devon could shortly be home to the UK tourism industry’s most prestigious accolade.

Family-run Beverley holidays beat thousands of eligible holiday parks in Britain to make the final seven, and it shares its shortlisting with some of the UK’s biggest operators.

But the company says it doesn’t feel daunted by the challenge, and is bowled over by the numbers who have so far voted for it to take first place.

The British Travel Awards are the largest and most influential poll of consumer opinion on tourism providers, with high quality standards and service being the main criteria.

Director of Beverley Holidays, Nicola Furneaux, said news of its shortlisting is a thrilling climax to a very successful summer at the park:

Beverley Holidays comprises three holiday parks offering boutique holiday caravans, luxury lodges, camping and touring, coupled with a wealth of leisure and entertainment facilities.

The park’s “vote for us!” campaign is now in full swing, and people doing so will be entered automatically into the British Travel Awards competition for a raft of different holiday prizes.

The voting button is displayed on the home page of the Beverley Holidays’ website at  www.beverley-holidays.co.uk and the winners will be announced in November.
