BH&HPA member parks have enjoyed outstanding success at this year’s Wales in Bloom awards, announced at a celebration event held in Wrexham this autumn.

Holiday park businesses from across Wales were recognised for their commitment to landscaping, environmental care and presentation, with members of the British Holiday and Home Parks Association taking top honours.

Thornley Leisure Parks Achieve Multiple Award Wins

Thornley Leisure Parks saw eight of its parks receive awards in the competition, including the overall winner title in the category for parks with fewer than 100 units.

The top honour was awarded to Maenan Abbey Caravan Park, located in the heart of the Conwy Valley and set within peaceful landscaped grounds close to the ruins of the 13th century Maenan Abbey.

A further six gold awards and one silver award were secured by other Thornley Leisure parks taking part in the contest, which attracted more than 100 entries from across Wales.

Commitment to Quality Landscaping and Care

Family owned Thornley Leisure operates ten parks across North Wales, Mid Wales, Cheshire and Yorkshire. Each park has dedicated gardening teams and seasonal planting crews.

Group marketing manager Hope Carter said the awards reflected the company’s focus on quality and care.

“We have always believed that exceptional surroundings are more than just attractive. They reflect our commitment to quality, care and community pride,” she said.

“Thornley Leisure wants every park to look its best from entrance areas to pathways and planted borders, and our guests, owners and staff all take pride in a beautifully maintained environment. Awards like Wales in Bloom help show prospective guests and owners that we invest in every detail of our parks, bringing benefits to everyone.”

Tree Tops Caravan Park Secures Overall Category Win

Elsewhere, Tree Tops Caravan Park in Flintshire celebrated winning the overall Wales in Bloom category for parks with more than 100 units. The family run park near Holywell has now recorded 32 consecutive wins in the competition, beating hundreds of eligible parks across Wales.

This achievement places Tree Tops in its fourth decade of success in the annual search for Wales’s most colourful and environmentally responsible holiday park.

Award Winning Gardens and Environmental Focus

Tree Tops uses around 16,000 plants each year, many grown from cuttings propagated in its own shrub nursery before being planted across the park’s 18 acre grounds. The landscaped areas include formal gardens, a Japanese garden, a sensory garden and orchards featuring heritage apple, plum and cherry trees.

The park is run by Andy Walker alongside his parents Maureen and Harry. The family has been welcoming holiday guests to the site for more than 60 years.

Three Generations of Park Care and Excellence

Today, Tree Tops provides luxury holiday caravans for private owners from both sides of the Welsh border and has accumulated a wide range of national and regional awards. These include a five star quality grading from Visit Wales and recognition for the park’s initiatives to protect wildlife and the natural environment.

“Three generations of work have gone into our gardens, and my parents set the high standards to which we continue to uphold,” said Andy.

“Our aim is to ensure that our plant displays offer something special throughout the four seasons of the year. It is a challenge that never gets easier, and we owe a great deal to the imagination and creativity of our dedicated park team.”
