Holiday Home Ownership Improves Health and Family Life, New Survey Finds

away resorts community report

Almost two-thirds of holiday caravan and lodge owners say ownership has improved their physical and mental health and strengthened their family relationships. That’s one of the findings of The Holiday Park Community Report, a survey of 373 holiday home owners carried out this summer by Away Resorts, which operates 25 top-rated parks across the UK.

Why Do People Buy a Holiday Home?

Freedom is the biggest draw. Six in ten owners (60%) said being able to enjoy a getaway whenever they wanted was a main reason for buying.

That flexibility is also what owners value most once they’ve bought. 69% said being able to get away at short notice is one of the biggest benefits of ownership, and over half (53%) said they feel relaxed the moment they arrive.

How Priorities Change With Age

The survey found that reasons for buying change as owners get older. Among 45 to 54-year-olds, 68% bought a holiday home to escape the stresses of everyday life, and 59% bought to spend more quality time with their families.

Older owners were more focused on building lasting memories with younger relatives. Nearly half (44%) of owners over 65 see their holiday home as something their children or grandchildren can also enjoy.

Buying a Holiday Home for Retirement

Almost a third of owners (31%) bought a holiday home with retirement in mind, and the survey suggests they are reaping the benefits. Eight in ten (80%) of those who bought for retirement said ownership has had a positive impact on their physical health.

Health, Wellbeing and Family Life

The benefits of holiday home ownership go well beyond relaxation. Across all age groups, owners said ownership has helped them build closer relationships with their families, improve their social life and achieve a better work-life balance.

Owners also highlighted the sense of community on their parks. Two-fifths have met people they now socialise with, and almost one in five said they feel a stronger sense of community at their holiday park than where they normally live.

Less Screen Time for Children and Grandchildren

Among owners with children or grandchildren, 72% said their youngsters spend less time on screens when staying on the park than when they are at home.

Rising Interest in Static Caravans for Sale
