Windermere Caravan Park team raise cash for guides charity

One of Britain’s most notoriously dangerous walks, from Arnside to Grange in Cumbria, was tackled this month by teams from three holiday parks owned by Lake District Estates. The charity walk was arranged by Windermere Caravan Park staff, who were  joined by holiday home owners.

The 5.5 mile trek crosses Morecambe Bay, with its stretches of quicksand and fast-flowing tides, have been responsible for many incidents over the years, including the loss of lives.

But staff from Lake District Estates, joined by a number of holiday homes owners from its parks, were in completely safe hands as they made the crossing in May.

That’s because they were being led by a member of the Guide Over Sands Trust which provides experts who know what the hazards are, and how to avoid them.

However, the crossing was more than just an exhilarating experience for everyone involved because it was also designed to raise much-needed funds for the Trust.

In the event, the walkers raised over £1000.00 to help Guide Over Sands continue its important work to help bay trekkers keep out of danger.

An amazing achievement by Lake District Park staff

The walk was arranged by staff at Hill of Oaks Lodge and Caravan Park on Windermere, and members of the park were joined by holiday home owners.

Also taking park were owners from Newby Bridge Country Caravan Park and Buck Yeats Lodge Park, also based in Newby Bridge, plus staff from Lake District Estates’ central office.

Rachel Bell, head of marketing and business development at Lake District Estates, who took part in the walk, said it had been an amazing experience:

“The only safe way to cross the ever-changing flats and channels of Morecambe Bay is with an experienced and knowledgeable guide,” said Rachel.

“The walk is a unique and fantastic way to take in the bay’s stunning beauty, and we are delighted to have raised a four-figure sum to support the work of this local charity.”

In addition to its seven top-rated holiday parks in Cumbria and Lancashire, Lakes District Estates also operates the popular Ullswater “Steamers” and the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway.
