Saturday Mash-Up visits Ullswater

CBBC Stanley visits the Lake District

Guests at Cumbria’s Waterfoot Park on Ullswater were delighted to be joined this summer by one of television’s most mischievous monsters.

But Stanley, the star of CBBC’s popular children’s show “Saturday Mash-Up!” wasn’t out to cause mayhem. He simply wanted to find out why caravan holidays are so popular.

CBBC’s Stanley cuddle up to caravanning

The cuddly puppet arrived one August weekend with a film crew from CBBC, makers of the programme, and lost no time in getting on with his quest.

Stanley met with park guest Marjorie Kettle and her three young grandchildren, and chatted with them about the highlights of their stay in a touring caravan.

He also took a tour of Waterfoot Park, based near Pooley Bridge, to find out what the lakeside park had to offer families looking for a bit of fun and adventure.

Next, Stanley jumped aboard a passenger boat, and the show’s young viewers saw him offering to take control of the vessel – which was politely declined by the captain.

The boat is part of Ullswater Steamers which is one of the Cumbria attractions owned by Lake District Estates, along with six award-winning parks including Waterfoot.

Lake District Inspiration

Stunning Lake District

Rachel Bell, the head of marketing and business development at Lake District Estates, said that everyone was delighted to welcome Stanley to the park:

‘We were very excited to host this popular children’s TV show, and loved watching Stanley’s antics at Waterfoot Park and aboard Ullswater Steamers.

“Hopefully, the show will have inspired more youngsters and their parents to visit and fall in love with this magnificent par of the Lake District,” said Rachel.

The park provides glamping and self-catering holidays as well as holiday home ownership, and is a member of the British Holiday & Home Parks Association.
