Devon Glamping Holidays Get a Boost as Highland Calves Become Guest Favourites

A North Devon holiday park has seen a boom in summer bookings after inviting the public to name its two young Highland cows.

Lynmouth Holiday Retreat launched a national competition to find the perfect names for the calves, with the winning entry earning a free holiday at the five-star glamping and holiday lodge park.

Naming Competition Captures National Attention

The bonnie bovines arrived at the park earlier this year and quickly became a favourite with guests. Unable to agree on names themselves, the park’s family owners turned to social media for inspiration, inviting followers to submit their suggestions.

The campaign attracted thousands of page views across Facebook and other social media platforms before the winning names were revealed. The Highland calves are now officially called Eddie and Dean, celebrating the Scottish cities of Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

The winning suggestion came from Helen Peers and her 14-year-old son Ollie from Leicester, who will enjoy a luxury stay in one of the park’s new Stargazer Geo Domes.

Devon Glamping Holidays Receive a Welcome Booking Boost

Ian James, Director of Lynmouth Holiday Retreat, said the competition had delivered much more than a solution to the naming challenge.

“The campaign has done a fantastic job of raising our park’s profile across the country, and we’re now likely to be at almost full capacity during the summer school holidays,” said Ian.

“Some people have even been asking if they will definitely be able to see Eddie and Dean during their stay because their children have been captivated by their pictures.

“We’re delighted to assure them that nobody will be disappointed, and that the pair seem very content to be admired by holiday guests and to have photographs taken.

“They have a very easy-going temperament, and seem to regard the beautiful rugged landscape of Exmoor as a perfectly acceptable alternative to the Highlands!” said Ian.

A Five-star Retreat Overlooking Exmoor and the North Devon Coast

Overlooking the iconic coastal town of Lynmouth, the park offers pitches for tents, touring caravans and motorhomes, alongside luxury holiday homes and glamping accommodation.

Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is one of four West Country parks owned by Coast & Country Parks, a family business founded 35 years ago by Ian James and now run alongside his son Chris.

Earlier this year, Ian completed a two-year term as National Chairman of the Holiday and Residential Parks Association (HARPA).

Award-winning Holidays for People and Pets

The park is no stranger to national recognition. Lynmouth Holiday Retreat was recently named Britain’s top holiday park for pet owners by Dog Friendly magazine after readers voted it their favourite destination.

In the camping and caravan park category, the park secured the number one position ahead of thousands of other holiday parks across the UK.
