AM Jocelyn Davies flew the flag for Welsh tourism recently when she paid a special visit to Gwent’s Pen-Y-Fan Caravan and Leisure Park as part of Wales Tourism Week.

The event, which ran until 06 March, is designed to put the spotlight on Wales’s tourism sector, and the £4.2 billion annual contribution it makes to the Welsh economy.

Jocelyn Davies, who is AM for South Wales East, toured Pen-Y-Fan Caravan Park in the village of Blackwood to see how the park attracts thousands of visitors each year to the region.

She also took the opportunity to present Exceptional Service Awards from the British Holiday & Home Parks Association to the park’s wardens Paul and Jayne Gardner.

The accolades marked the husband-and-wife team’s five years at Pen-Y-Fan, and the couple were nominated by the park in recognition of their hard work and commitment to customer care.

Pen-Y-Fan has been owned by Graham Davies since 1988, and since then he and his partner Caroline Morgan have invested much time and energy into creating a first-class holiday environment.

The 50-acre park, with spectacular views of the Welsh mountains, provides caravan holiday homes for private owners, plus pitches for touring caravans, motorhomes and tents.

It also recently installed luxury two-person pods with heating and electricity for guests to rent.

Jocelyn Davies met with the park’s owners, and Graham Davies told her that Gwent was continuing to grow in popularity as a holiday destination, attracting visitors from across the UK and Europe.

Visitor spending was also on the rise, he said, and benefits many local enterprises such as shops, cafes, and visitor attractions, supporting the both the businesses and the jobs they provide.

The area, said Graham, has a special appeal to lovers of the natural world, and that he had tried to create a park which was a match for the magnificent surroundings.

Graham added that he was delighted that Jocelyn Davies was able to take time out to visit his Gwent holiday park, and to help raise the profile of Wales Tourism Week.
