A family-run touring park on the  Roseland Peninsula will be carrying the flag for Cornwall in this year’s VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, it has just been announced.

Trethem Mill Touring Park in St Just-in-Roseland will be the only holiday park in Cornwall competing in the national tourist board’s finals of the competition on 24 April.

The glittering awards ceremony will take place this year at the Hilton Waldorf hotel in London, and Trethem Mill will be one of just three UK parks competing in the holiday park category.

Trethem Mill is owned and run by three generations of the Akeroyd family who this year will be celebrating their 25th anniversary of taking over the park.

Jane Akeroyd, speaking on behalf of Trethem Mill, said: “As a family we are so proud to have been chosen as a finalist at national level, especially during our silver anniversary year.

“This is such an honour for our small business, and has provided a wonderful start to the 2017 holiday season. Our park is achieving just what we intended by attracting people with a real love for this beautiful part of Cornwall, and providing them with truly memorable stays,” added Jane.

VisitEngland chief executive Sally Balcombe said: “The awards spotlight an industry driven by the highest-calibre people and organisations who deliver unforgettable experiences for visitors, raising the profile of England as a world-class destination, and driving the economic benefits of tourism.

“Awards for Excellence finalists exemplify outstanding tourism talent. We received over 600 truly impressive applications this year, and there’s absolutely no doubt that the finalists represent the very best in the industry. They all deserve our congratulations,” she said.

Trethem Mill was awarded the top gold accolade in the “camping and caravan park of the year” category in the Cornwall and South West Tourism Excellence awards 2016/17.

Earlier this year, the park was praised by botanist David Bellamy when he presented it with his prestigious conservation award at its top gold level for the seventh year in succession.

Trethem Mill has also been awarded the VisitEngland Gold award for achieving exceptional quality and service beyond their maximum five-star rating.
